My first product shots were taken in my small garage-turned-studio. This was in the mid-eighties (please don't do the math). At the time I was creating a product portfolio from scatch, so anything I could find was a potential subject. Fruit, pens, and golf clubs made their way in front of my camera. This started my facination with small product photography and fine lighting control that a studio environment provides.

 

Sometimes the challenge lies in taking an ordinary item and showing it from a fresh viewpoint using lighting, lens selection and camera placement to tell a story. Sometimes one only needs to show the product cleanly and let the details speak for themselves. But most times, simplicity is best.
